Red Lion, Biggleswade 23rd October 2008...

Richy Rock (strummin' n hummin')

The Reserves tour bus stopped off at the Red lion in Biggleswade for their 1st gig in the small market town... With Thursday being the new 'start of the weekend' (even in Biggleswade!) the locals mingled with the Reservettes, all ready to party... Highlights included a drum 'n' bass version of 'This charming man' (Richy Rock managed to break 2 guitars... how cool is that!), Jono's fine backing vox on 'chelsea dagger' and once again 'Rio' being demanded in the 1st and 2nd sets... AND the encore... (more pics to come...)

Floods Tavern, St Ives 13th Sept 2008...

jono jumps...

This was the Reserves 1st visit to Floods Tavern and so they needed to impress...
setting up in a space that was only just big enough for chris' drum kit the hitchin pop-beat combo unleashed their songs on a curious crowd of locals. By the end the whole pub (including the landlord and a bela lagosi look-a-like!) were singing 'Mr Brightside' and 'i predict a riot', which finished just before one broke out ... The Reserves had conquered St Ives...

The Anchor, Hitchin 22nd August 2008...

The Reserves played their first home-town gig of the year at the Anchor... with a new light show, new songs and a large stage they wasn't going to waste this moment... Jono jumped... Richy rocked... Paul posed... and Chris crashed the cymbals like his life depended on it... a packed Anchor, quiet at first, soon started singing and dancing along with the Reservettes (who were in fine voice!)...
'Rio' was demanded (and played) as the crowd raised the roof... at the end they were still in a party mood... a loud but peacefully demonstration (at the landlord) started as only one song was allowed as an encore... the crowd wanted more but rules are rules!! the bank holiday weekend had started with a bang...

The Plume of Feathers, Little Wymondley, 19th July 2008

A return to form for The Reserves following their six month injury and baby-induced break. The band played two strong sets featuring new songs by Vampire Weekend, Ash, The Wombats and The Pigeon Detectives and old faves by The Jam, The Fratellis, Kaiser Chiefs and Blur, oh, and not to forget, errrrrr....Rio.

There was a good turnout despite the credit crunch, although some of the regular Reservettes were on holiday. Nevertheless some groovy dancing by those present including Emma's Mum made up for their absence. Jono's bass strap held up well this time and his new shirt and the presence of Emma's Mum provided plenty of ammunition for Paul's trademark caustic wit.

GIGS CANCELLED!

Sadly, Councillor Cox took a nasty tumble whilst trying to impress some local girls by doing wheelies on his chopper on valentine's evening. This lead to a badly broken hand, a hospital visit, bone graft and now he is laid up eating grapes.
We hope Rich gets better soon!
Anyway, this means that we have had to postpone all the March-May gigs.
Please watch this space for new dates and I am sure you will join us in wishing Coxy a speedy recovery.

Gigs at The Plume of Feathers confirmed

Following the successful gig at the Plume of Feathers, Little Wymondley, on 2nd Feb, we are pleased to announce that they have invited us back to pollute the airwaves of this sleepy village near Hitchin. We are currently organising another date for September too...watch this space!

Lastly, we wish Councillor Cox a successful trip to India, where he is going on a bhuna-cooking and meditation for wookies taster course.
Let's hope his bowels are holding up for the Crown and Cushion, a couple of days after he is back.

Media Stars!

The boys have plenty in reserve

EDITORIAL - editorial@thecomet.net

The Reserves
SOMETIMES band names are cryptic - they are abstract, random or born out of a blurred night fuelled with Jack Daniels. But sometimes they are just plain obvious, straight to the point, like The Reserves.

The Reserves got the name after standing in for a band that pulled out of a local gig. It's not rocket science. But that doesn't mean that the band is any less interesting.

The Hitchin-based band has been together for around two years now, playing covers of The Jam to the Kaiser Chiefs.

Members are Richie Cox on lead guitar, Jono Leadley on bass guitar, Chris Gerrard on drums and - maintaining the Jam link - Paul Weller on vocals and guitar.

They have become a staple on the local music scene, with the Reservettes, as they term them, among their fans.

And they have had some memorable experiences in their time.

Jono said: "We once followed a death metal soloist at a vegan birthday party - luckily everyone stayed to watch us play!"

While Paul said: "The best experience was playing a packed gig in Hitchin and not being able to hear our amps over the singing of the crowd - if only we'd written the song we were playing!

"The worst was whilst playing at a pub the electrics kept cutting out nearly making us go acapella!"

The band may be ready to step in at a moments notice, but what have they got planned?

Paul said: "During the last year we have been gigging more regularly around the area and have started to build up an ever expanding Reservette fan base. We have the best looking fans in the world!"

Chris added: "We've got gigs coming up soon so we're rehearsing new songs to put in the set."

To all Reservettes in the making, Richie said: "Get your dancing pants on and get out to see us!"
